Modern research products are built by more people than an author list can express, and “who did what” degrades quickly once a project spans years and institutions.
Two standards address this. ORCID gives every researcher a persistent identifier, so your work stays attached to you across name changes and institutions. CRediT is a 14-role taxonomy — conceptualization, software, data curation, writing, and so on — that records contribution explicitly rather than encoding it in author order.
Both matter more for the kind of work in this program, where a substantial contribution may be a pipeline or a released dataset rather than a paragraph of a manuscript.
