STAMPED Principles

STAMPED is a set of seven principles for research objects — Self-containment, Tracking, Actionability, Modularity, Portability, Ephemerality, Distributability — intended as a practical successor to FAIR for work that is meant to be built upon rather than merely found.

The distinction that matters: FAIR asks whether someone can locate and access your data. STAMPED asks whether they can pick it up and keep going — re-execute the analysis, recombine a component, deploy it somewhere else.

Much of this book already argues for pieces of STAMPED without naming it. Containers are Portability; DataLad provenance is Tracking; BIDS is Self-containment and Modularity. A page here would give that scattered advice a single spine.
